WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW: 5 Ways You Personally Can Change the World

The symbol above is the "Om" symbol in the shape of a heart. The "Om" represents the vibrational frequency of balance in the body. In the shape of a heart, it transcends our physical body to bring in the frequency of source--which is effectively LOVE.

I've been watching social media over the last few weeks and it's been devolving more and more into fear. The Presidential Race has triggered anger, helplessness, rage, confusion, activism, unrest, and separation. The outcome of a certain rape trial in California has triggered both outrage and fear between the genders. That outrage and fear has been channeled into dark paths of revenge, retaliation, and resentment towards both the perpetrator individually and our social constructs universally. And today yet another shooting, another act of terrorism (that which creates terror) is splashed all over our sources of information.

While all the feelings I mentioned above are most certainly justifiable and understandable, there comes a time when focusing on the darkness distracts us from embracing the light. Martin Luther King Jr. said it best when he said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

So in this time of deep social, political, and gender unrest I'd like to give you some options of how the attitude and behavior you choose can actually make a difference in the world.

How you, personally, can change the world:

  1. When choosing to share posts on social media, only share those that put a positive spin on the situation. If it is a fear-based point-of-view, skip the share. There's no need to perpetuate anger, sadness and fear.

  2. When you read something that triggers anxiety, angst, or abhorrence, take a moment to take in a deep breath before responding. What about the situation is triggering you? How does the story illuminate the fear inside of you? The outside world is a reflection of your inner world. By processing the trigger on the inside of you, you create inner peace, thereby creating outer peace. As Wayne Dwyer once said, “Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world.”

  3. Make a conscious decision about the way you present your thoughts to others. Rather then lamenting that which you cannot change, think about what you can do in your own life to help improve upon the difficult situation. Can you pray for peace? Can you offer guidance? Can you hold the space for another to heal? Can you offer monetary support? Can you offer emotional support?

  4. In alignment with number three, what can you do to set an example for the next generation? How can you carry yourself, express yourself, and what behaviors can you choose that teach the little eyes that are watching about bringing more love into the world?

  5. Use humor to diffuse fear. There's a reason they say that laughter is the best medicine. Be mindful that the humor is not at the expense of another--creating true joy and laughter lifts up everyone.

Small displays of mindfulness combine collectively. In every situation you get to embrace whether you choose love or whether you choose fear. Always choose love. That is the essence of the Higher Living Journey.
